More than one year since the latest conflict erupted in Sudan, the situation has become an unthinkable nightmare for girls and their families. Girls are not in school and are at high risk of starvation, gender-based violence and human trafficking. Your gift to the Humanitarian Response Fund supports Plan's work in the areas of protection, support to the most vulnerable - girls - in conflict, education and safe spaces during emergencies, and resilience for the toughest circumstances.
The conflict in Sudan has already created the world's largest displacement crisis. Now, roughly 2.9 million children are already acutely malnourished. Additionally, the growing hunger crisis has strong gendered impacts and adolescent girls must continually choose between starvation and safety as they face violence or harassment when attempting to access markets, fields, livelihood opportunities, humanitarian distribution sites, or other zones.
Plan International has scaled up a humanitarian response in Sudan and has reached over 200,000 people with lifesaving aid since the beginning of the crisis. As the conflict spills into neighboring countries - South Sudan and Chad - we are responding to mass displacement by: - Protecting children from violence and exploitation. - Providing food, clean water and health care. - Ensuring children are able to continue their education - Responding to the most urgent needs of children
Supporting Plan International's humanitarian response to this crisis means supporting the unique needs of girls. We help all people during conflict, but in the chaos of an emergency, girls and young women are at even greater risk of exploitation and abuse. Girls' needs often fall through the cracks during disasters, but with your support, we'll make sure they're met. Any donations received that exceed what is needed for this emergency will be directed to other areas of greatest humanitarian need
