Fire season is upon us again, and it is expected to be as bad as last year. Help us protect the three sanctuaries and all the animals who live in them! With fewer volunteers on the ground, we need to pay local workers to make fire preparations - clearing fire strips, mounting water tanks, etc.
Every year, farmers light fires to clear their land, and every year, exasperated by the crippling effects of climate change, they grow out of control and cause devastating forest. Last year's fires caused unprecedented damage to the Bolivian Amazon and its wildlife. All three sanctuaries were spared from damage last year, thanks to an amazing team of volunteers, who worked day and night to put out surrounding fires. Donors like you provided the gear - backpack sprayers, water tanks, hoses, etc.
This year we need to replace some of the equipment, and without volunteers, we need to pay local workers to carry out this important work. Since CIWY is already struggling to feed the animals during the Covid-19 crisis, we certainly don't have spare funds for fire-fighting. Your donation will protect CIWY's animals and their habitat. You will also provide temporary salaries to out-of-work Bolivians.
CIWY helps preserve the biodiversity of Amazonian fauna by rescuing a wide array of animals, including endangered species. CIWY also educates the public to respect wildlife and the environment.
