Wahyu and his team are young social innovators passionate about inspiring greater citizen engagement in Indonesia. They have created Poli-tikus - a website dedicated to tracking the policy positions and performance of politicians in an easy and accessible way. Citizens can be empowered by this information to make more informed decisions during elections.
In countries like Indonesia, corruption is rampant and most politicians and public servants are not serving the public properly. There are so many elected representatives in Indonesia, that citizens are unable to remember the promises made or a candidate's previous performance and track record. By creating this website to monitor the legislative council, we can provide a better picture of accountability of the politicians in developing countries, and the electors can choose wisely.
Through Poli-tikus, citizens will have a better and fuller picture of the Indonesian political landscape. The web platform will keep track of the politicians records, to deter corruption and monitor performance by increasing political transparency and accountability in Indonesia. With the growing internet and mobile access among Indonesians, the web platform will help citizens to know their legislative candidates better and as a result, become more empowered and engaged in the electoral process.
The expected impact of this project is greater engagement among citizens in Indonesia. By 2014, we endeavour to support 100 citizens in using the information and data on the website to inform their decision-making during the election.
