This project aims to plant 1,000 fruit trees across 20 rural schools in Uganda that own land. The initiative seeks to promote agricultural sustainability, improve nutrition, and foster environmental stewardship among students and communities. By leveraging school land resources, we hope to create a greener, healthier, and more self-sufficient environment for future generations.
Many rural schools in Uganda lack access to diverse and nutritious food sources, which affects students' health and academic performance. Additionally, these schools often have limited greenery, leading to environmental degradation and poor soil quality. The absence of sustainable agricultural practices hampers community development, leaving children vulnerable to malnutrition and limiting educational opportunities related to environmental conservation.
This project will establish a fruit tree planting program in selected schools that own suitable land. We will collaborate with agricultural experts to select appropriate fruit tree varieties that thrive locally, such as mango, orange, avocado, apple and passion fruit. The schools will be involved in the planting, caring, and monitoring of the trees, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. Training sessions will be provided to students and staff on sustainable farming practices
Establishing school fruit tree gardens in rural schools will have a transformative impact, enhancing students' diets and health, promoting sustainable agriculture, and supporting environmental conservation. The project will generate income, inspire communities, and empower students with valuable skills, creating a lasting legacy and promoting sustainable development.
