By Susan Tileston | Director and project leader MY STORY photo project
10 orphans, ages 16 to 23, are now budding photographers, documenting their lives in Myitkyina, Myanmar. While the MY STORY project did not realize its $1800 goal on GlobalGiving, it did reach it with donations made directly to the MY STORY Photo Project organization.
Students documented life in their orphanage; cooking, cleaning, looking after younger children, studying, playing football (soccer). Kids grow up fast in this environment, with an uncertain future. We espcially noticed the heightened security while we were there, due to students protesting against the actions of the Myanmar army against internally displaced people, caught in the conflict with the Kachin Independence Army. In spite of this, our students remain positive and optimistic!
Visit msppa.org to see some of their images. And thank you for making this workshop happen!
