Barely 25% of the children attending our Educational support program have had the opportunity to participate in our programming workshop, due to a lack of sufficient resources. We want to amplify the impact of our workshops : new equipment purchase (computers and robots); scholarships for our most gifted students to attend specific programming schools; increasing the number of workshops and their frequency to reach more children involving the hiring of new facilitators
During the first COVID lockdown in 2020, when schools were closed, most of our children have little or no access to computers at home, and were therefore unable to follow lessons remotely. Some had no internet connection, some had no printer to copy homework... We reorganized oue support, going full remote, so we started loaning equipment, teaching parents how to use them. This period highlighted the precarious conditions that our children can experience at home.
Beyond homework support we firmly believe that our support must go further : we are convinced that the children fulfillment also involves playing and creativity. With this mind we set up a first computer programming workshop in 2019. Our ambition is that every child during the years spent at SFM has participated in at least one workshop thanks : new equipment purchase; scholarships for our most gifted student; increasing the number of workshops and their frequency with new facilitators
This project will allow children to work on mathematics, logic, developing their creativity, and engagement. These programming workshops encourage them to reflect, identify problems and find solutions more quickly. It is very valuable for us in the coming years
