Hilltop Schools operates a tuition-free school for 260 girls. The children we support are required to wear a uniform to school. Beyond removing a significant barrier to education, uniforms legitimize a student, instill a sense of pride, and put them on a more even playing field. This #GivingTuesday, please consider donating to our "One Uniform" campaign! Every $25 raised will mean a new school uniform for a girl in our school - a uniform that will keep them in school and off of the streets.
At Hilltop Schools, our students come from West Point, the largest slum in Liberia, where most children work in the market every day to support their families and do not have the funds or time to attend school. A new academic year begins on December 7, 2020. But sadly, most students do not have a fitting uniform to attend school this year. The lack of uniform puts children's safety at risk, increases bullying, peer pressure, and absenteeism among others.
Our One Uniform campaign seeks to provide uniforms for 260 students enrolled at our all-girls Academy in Monrovia this year. Every $25 raised will mean a new school uniform for a girl in our school - a uniform that will keep them in school and off the streets. In their proper school uniform, our students feel more confident to engage with their teachers and peers. They are safer traveling to and from school as their uniform legitimizes them and our school.
The project will educate thousands of girls from West Point, providing education and support to reach the top of their potential. Our students learn leadership values, sisterhood, and a responsibility to create change in their community and country. For many of our students, they are the first and only person in their families to attend school. Their education is a source of pride, and also a vital asset to lifting themselves and their families out of poverty over time.
