In rural Wakiso, Uganda, TYoFU has transformed a single pond project into a vibrant five-pond ecosystem, stocking over 8,000 catfish and 500 tilapia to provide renewable protein for the surrounding community. To ensure these fish grow strong and healthy, avoiding stunted growth from nutrient shortages, we urgently need quality feeds and hands-on training for our youth farmers. Your support funds specialized pellets, supplemental ovals, & expert sessions, creating a self-sustaining hub.
Aquaculture provides sustainable protein and skills, but inconsistent feeds and training create fragile ecosystems, stunted growth, and hunger cycles that impact women and youth the hardest. TYoFU's five-pond hub, addresses this issue. Without starter and finisher pellets to curb mortality, however, our fish yields falter, undermining our youth-led innovations and long-term community impact. This project secures the sustainability of TYoFU's five-pond ecosystem and trains youths in aquaculture.
This microproject nourishes our pond ecosystem with tailored feeds for catfish/tilapia growth, plus youth training. Funds cover: Starter Pellet ($500): High-protein for fingerlings in nursery/grading ponds, boosting early vitality. Finisher Pellet ($700): Nutrient-dense for mature fish in rearing ponds, enhancing community yields. Chicken Ovals ($300): Supplemental for biodiversity & integrated farming (poultry/fish attractant). Training 30 Youth ($600): Expert sessions for aquaculture training.
TYoFU's five-pond ecosystem isn't just about fish; it's a ripple of empowerment. Healthy stocks mean reliable, nutritious food for families, reducing malnutrition and generating income through sales. Trained youth gain livelihoods in high-demand aquaculture, breaking unemployment barriers and fostering leadership in sustainable practices. By prioritizing eco-friendly feeds and native species integration, we conserve water, soil, and biodiversity, inspiring community-wide stewardship.
