In an effort to support youth entrepreneurship education and business creation, NFTE New York Metro will provide Student Prototype Materials Kits to 32 schools. These kits will provide NFTE students with access to materials they need to build prototypes and samples to accompany their business plans during pitches and presentations.
As an entrepreneurship program that focuses on youth development and business creation, this project will allow young people to build a prototype of their product with in-class materials provided in this kit. NFTE teachers will work with staff to identify materials for each school and students will have access to the kits as they build out their business plan. Our project addresses the need to provide students the materials to build sample products and identify the steps for product development.
This project will enable students to strengthen their business plans with a mock prototype. Students will be able to expand on their written business plan and pitch deck for the NFTE program and will be able to participate in hands on, experiential learning - a core tenant of the NFTE curriculum. In the prototype building process, students will develop critical thinking skills and evaluate, monitor, and revise multiple versions of a minimal viable product.
NFTE NY Metro has served nearly 70,000 students since 1987 and will support over 3,000 students in the 2013-2014 school year. By working to keep at-risk students engaged in their school work, NFTE spurs its participants to graduate high school and dare to dream of a brighter future. Whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or start their own business, NFTE instills an entrepreneurial mindset in young people so they can plan for success.
