Lighthouse Relief Response Vehicle

Lighthouse Relief is one of the only organisations on the northern shores of Lesvos to maintain a near constant watch of the coastline. This is a vital job; however, it would mean little without being able to also launch a fast and effective response to meet and receive people arriving on the shoreline. For this reason, we have purchased a Toyota 4x4 vehicle capable of effectively navigating the often rough and varied terrain around the Lesvos coast. Thanks to it, we can maintain being fully operational on a constant basis; dispatching spotting teams, assisting people both when they land and in the transit camp.

Every year, our team in Lesvos cares for a large number of people. These numbers fluctuate little year-by-year and show no sign of decreasing. Because of this, there is a clear and unwavering demand for assistance. This vehicle has become a key part of our operations on the Island. It ensures that we can meet this demand, receiving new arrivals on the coast, providing them key humanitarian supplies such as food and drinking water, for as long as the demand remains.

The vehicle

Prior to the purchasing of this 4x4, one of the two vehicles in our fleet was provided by a local rental company. Whilst this made sure we were able to respond to landings, it was a deeply cost-ineffective solution. The purchasing of this 4x4 will both decrease the costs of our Lesvos response team, as well as ensuring the quality and consistency of the aid we provide.

For administrative reasons we faced certain delay in purchasing the car, we apologize to all our donors not having given earlier update. However we can reassure you all that now we have a vehicle that will allow us assist people arrving on Lesvos. Thank you for your support and patience.
