In Search of a 'Suitable Dog'

By Vicky Flynn | Communications Manager

Could he be the one?
Could he be the one?

When we launched the appeal to fund a third dog for our anti-poaching team in Assam there were a two things we were not sure about: 1. Could we raise enough to fund this vital new member of the team? and  2. Would we be able to find a suitable dog?

The generosity of donors, both through GlobalGiving and our other fundraising channels answered the first worry almost immediately. The $1,290 from GlobalGiving was a great boost and with other funding streams the money was raised and we were thrilled! The next issue is still to be resolved.

Finding the right dog is crucial. They have to be fearless, bomb proof, dedicated, determined and on-duty 24/7. They have to have a work ethic and a super strong sense of smell and purpose. They must not be prone to distraction or playfulness, in short, they have to be pretty special.

So, as I write, the search conitnues for the right dog. Knowing that one breed, the Belgian Malinois, has most of the right characteristics we need helps refine the field so we are hopefully that we will have great news very soon.

Thank you again for your amazing support and we'll introduce you to our 'suitable dog' as soon as we find him - or her.
