Venezuelan refugees at the border are facing a severe health crisis; lacking access to medical attention and basic necessities. In partnership with the Colombian army, this 10-day mission will bring the gospel and supply medical, dentistry, and optometry services, and medicine and food package distribution to 9,000 Venezuelan refugees in extreme need at the main points of entry on the Colombian border.
Over 200,000 Venezuelan refugees have migrated to the Colombian border municipalities of Ragonvalia, Herran, Chitaga, Cucutilla. These communities are facing a health crisis, only worsened by covid-19, due to a massive lack of access to medical, dental, and optometry services and overall medications. Thousands of neglected refugees are suffering from malnourishment, lacking access to basic medicine and hygiene products, and in need of urgent care; pregnant or nursing mothers, in particular.
This 10-day mission is focused on providing emergency relief, food packages, supplies, and consolation to the refugees and residents trying to survive at the Colombian-Venezuelan border until a long-term solution is available.
This mission is bringing further awareness to the severe health crisis these communities are facing, and the need for greater accessibility to medical services for municipalities on the Colombian border, as it is not likely that Venezuelans will stop crossing the border anytime soon, and both refugees and residents deserve access to basic health care and necessities.
