Women's Resource Center plan to reduce the barriers to women's and girls civic and economic participation in Cambodia, by providing a free community learning centre for women from the poorest areas in Siem Reap. Every women and girl has the right to be recognised as a full citizen, a person, a human being. Our friend Minka is uniting with women in the world by setting the goal to run in this years Angkor Half Marathon proving that women and girls can achieve their dreams.
The working age population in Cambodia is growing by about 300,000 persons per year according to the National Institute of Statistics, Cambodia. While the Ministry of Women's Affairs are working closely with government policy, women and girls in Cambodia have limited, unequal and often unsafe opportunity to civic and economic participation. This project will enable women and girls from rural Siem Reap to address and overcome these barriers.
Women's Resource Center provides accessible childcare, transportation, work ready & skills training, transportation (female tuk tuk driver), health & fitness & resources to local women & girls. These empowered women and girls are also trained to share this knowledge with their villages and local communities.
This project will inform, educate and provide training to women and their families allowing the cycle of poverty to be broken to enable brighter futures for Cambodian women and girls. When equipped with knowledge, women understanding their rights resulting in new found confidence and empowerment. This enables them to know how best to protect and look after themselves and make informed decisions about their own lives, and those of their children.
