Reading and writing skills are just some of the things the Adult Literacy program offers, it's a community, a safe space and a quest towards continuous learning and self-reliance. This project assist and transforms mainly Muslim Women and particularly those belonging to the Mbororo ethnicity in Buea. With your help we can ensure the program keeps helping girls.
Vulnerability, lack of freedom, powerlessness, lack bargaining power, lack of self-confidence and ultimately a life of exploitation and oblivion. All of this cannot be solved easily nor quickly, and it is through a constant intervention and continuous coaching that Reach Out has been fighting this plagues with different programs. Learning to read and write is a starting point towards emotional stability, economic empowerment and a place in the community.
Basic Literacy is a first step towards self-empowerment. It opens their world and challenges them. The program provides a platform of continuous learning, self-improving and a safe space. We keep watch on our beneficiaries' social and economic status and eventually we empower them with tailored economic solutions. We have a working partnership with the Muslim Communities of Buea and they keep directing us new vulnerable women to assist free of charge.
The increase in self-esteem and sense of empowerment will improve their position in the household and their communities. Some of them are still very young and might catch up to formal education. As word spreads of the assistance we can provide, new beneficiaries join the program. This program also acts as a safe entrance and meeting point for new beneficiaries of Reach Out to our other empowerment programs.Lets never forget also that learning has a positive effect at all stages of life.
