Situation Update - Flood Relief Efforts

By Louise | Managing Director

Your partnership has always been the foundation of our work. Today, I am writing to give you a transparent look at the challenges we are facing on the ground, the resilience of our team, and the critical path forward.

Current Challenges: The Stagnant Crisis

The rains have finally subsided, but they have left a complex humanitarian situation in their wake. We are no longer just fighting water; we are fighting the environment it left behind.

  • Environmental Health: Extreme humidity has prevented clothes and bedding from drying. We are seeing a widespread mould crisis, which poses a direct threat to respiratory health and basic hygiene.
  • The Disease Horizon: We are currently in a high-risk window for waterborne and vector-borne illnesses. Our team is preparing for a surge in malaria, dysentery, and cholera as floodwaters remain stagnant through information and awareness raising activities.
  • Resource Allocation: Despite active applications for emergency food and supply grants, the demand continues to outpace our current inventory. This forces our team to make the difficult decisions no one wants to make prioritizing aid for the most vulnerable.

The Power of Local Insight

In the midst of this chaos, our greatest asset remains our village-based staff. Because they are members of the communities they serve, they provide a level of oversight that an outside organization simply cannot. Their discernment ensures that your donations reach families with verified, "bona fide" needs, maintaining the integrity of every dollar you invest.

A Heartfelt Request for Support

This has been an exceptionally heavy season for us. For the first time in 23 years, we are mourning the loss of a child to suicide.

Our staff are reeling. When you serve from a place of deep relationship, the weight of such a loss is immense. As we battle feelings of failure and collective grief, we ask for your support—not just for the work we do, but for the people doing it.

How to Partner With Us Today?

We invite you to stand with us in two specific ways:

  • Advocacy: Please serve as an Ambassador for our mission. Share this update with your network to help us expand our circle of support.
  • Prayer: We ask for your prayers for the physical health of our villagers and the mental health of our frontline team.

We remain fully committed to these children and the communities we serve. Thank you for staying the course with us.

With gratitude,

Louise
