G’Day!
Welcome to a very blustery day in Westfalia! We are expecting rain today and sadly supposedly the next few days. How much fun can you bear to have……….such is camping life!
Today, we are camping from Monday till Saturday. Currently we are running a Cub Warrant for 20 people who are working as volunteers with our children aged 7-11yrs, so we are taking them through a 4day training to make sure the program they run is interesting, progressively challenging and exciting for the children. These ladies, yes, they are all ladies are coming from the SHG groups as well as from the Scout parents that are not yet apart of SHG.
Following that, we will be having the long-awaited Camporee! It is so much fun to see the excitement building amongst the kids. I will share more about that next week and show you pictures, lots of pictures.
Today is short, I want to introduce you to Shirley and how we have impacted her life.
Thank you for all of your support and I hope you enjoy!
Blessings
Louise
Hi there! My name is Shirley, and I'm a 13-year-old (almost 14!) student in Grade 8 at Burgersdrop Junior. I'm passionate about playing netball and spending time with friends. When I'm not on the court, you can find me with a pencil in hand, bringing my imagination to life through drawing. I'm proud to be part of the 1st Burgersdrop Troop, and I've been a scout since December 2021, when my mom encouraged me to join as a cub.
Growing up in a family of five I didnt always understand the importance of teamwork, sharing, and understanding others. My family has always been supportive, and I'm grateful for the love and encouragement they've given me.
From the moment I stepped into scouting, I felt like I belonged. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for the lessons I've learned, like sharing, socializing, and working together as a team. In fact, scouting has helped me come out of my shell and build meaningful relationships with others. I've even had the opportunity to invite my friend Banele to join, and we've been enjoying the experience together ever since.
One of the highlights of my scouting experience was the June 2025 camp. I was amazed by the skills we learned, like building fires and cooking without electricity. I am very priviledged because in my house we have electricity, not like other people in the village. These skills have not only taught me about resourcefulness but also about appreciating the simple things in life like camping.
As I look to the future, I'm excited to pursue a career in medicine, possibly as a surgeon. I love the idea of helping people and making a positive impact on their lives. Scouting has instilled in me the confidence and skills to chase my dreams, and I'm grateful for the support of my troop and leaders.
I'm looking forward to continuing my scouting journey, learning new skills, and making lasting friendships. Scouts has changed me so much, I am a new person, I am honest and loyal, I am kind and caring, I am a team player and try hard to understand others. I see I now have the skills to have a bright future. Thank you KTD196.
