Avuxeni, minjani? Umfekile Minjane! (Hello, how are you? I am well thank you!)

It is remarkable how quickly time flies when the work is this fulfilling. Last week was a testament to the "ripple effect" of your support. While four of our staff members were in Pietermaritzburg deepening their expertise in our Self-Help Group (SHG) program, I was moved by the personal journey of a new colleague. For her, this trip was a series of life-changing "firsts"—her first flight and her first time staying in a hotel, the first time she ate from a restaurant (all funded by our SHG partner). This is the heart of KTD196: we grow together, ensuring our team is as empowered as the people we serve. What I love about KTD196 is that people get to expand their horizons, their experiences and its not just limited to the beneficiaries.

I drove the team down to Johannesburg to catch their flights and then spent the next 4days in meetings. I also was able to pick up donations from Gauteng Scouts, Cubs, Rovers, Parents and Adult Leaders – for the flood victims. I picked up a trailer full of food and clothes; nappies; sanitary products; etc. I had to leave some behind which I will probably collect in 2weeks time when I return. It is so wonderful being a part of something bigger than ourselves in times like these.

We have also received donations of a box of seeds to assist with food security long term. It is important that people don’t become dependent on us and maintain their own autonomy and ability to provide for themselves, however there are times when everyone needs a helping hand.

Also, very gratefully we have received a donation from KNH our institutional donor, this money will go towards food parcels for 2months, blankets and school uniforms for 60 of the most vulnerable people we have in the program. I have spoken earlier about the floods, and I just want to remind you about the link that is open if you feel to donate and assist us in our efforts. The link is below for your ease.

This week we are preparing for the colour run on the weekend however I am not sure the weather is going to give us a break because it has started raining once again.

Thank you for sticking with us through this challenging uphill climb. We couldn't reach these heights without your hand to hold.

Blessings

Louise
