Children and families who face situations of social exclusion are more vulnerable to the multiple economic, social and emotional effects generated by the COVID-19 virus. Our work is to improve their opportunities for prevention of infection, care against the disease, as well as provide the necessary means to maintain an adequate diet, means for learning and psycho-emotional resources to face social isolation.
According to data from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), of the almost 40 million children and teenagers living in Mexico, more than half are in poverty and 4 million live in extreme poverty, in violation to their human rights; consequently, they do not have the necessary resources such as food, housing, education and health to live in a dignified way. In addition to the usual risks mentioned, they face one more: the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
To face this problem, at Fundacion Pro Ninos we look for suitable spaces for the protection of children and adolescents. We provide the necessary resources to navigate the pandemic, reducing the risk of infection or death; we provide psychological support to reduce the psycho-emotional impact caused by the pandemic and we create the necessary conditions for children and their families to exercise their rights, having access to adequate food, medical follow-up and access to educational.
In the medium and long term, children, adolescents and their families will be able to reduce the negative effects of the pandemic on their quality of life. They will be able to preserve their nutritional health, as well as have the tools and capacities that allow them to prevent, as far as possible, exposure and infections, while strengthening their self-care skills.
