Summary

Due to the growing demand, we need more sewing machines. With YOUR support, each tailoring trainee will have access to a machine - where she can practice and learn. Access to new sewing machines will broaden the tailoring skills and future earning potential of the trainees. This will help create a new start for school drop outs and unemployed ladies in In the Wellington community of Freetown, Sierra Leone. This will open a new door of opportunity!

Challenge

The project will solve our sewing machine scarcity problem - helping us to have ample machines to meet the growing demand. Over the past year, the number of trainees has increased and we have had to turn away some interested school drop outs away due to limited machine capacity. This will also help us replace older, worn out machines. These machines will bring a new boost of life to the trainees and school.

Solution

Project funds will purchase 15 general sewing machines and 2 designing / embroidering machines. These machines will help us meet the equipment demand and also help us enhance trainee learning. This will diversify learning opportunities and enable participants to be better trained and gain a higher level of tailoring skills. The provision of these vital tools will transform their learning abilities.

Long-Term Impact

Youths will be empowered to move from poverty and unemployment to self-sufficiency. It will contribute to youth development in skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged youths. Additionally, this will help provide a source of income to support the school as they will be able to produce a higher quality of garments - embroidered, etc.
