It is with regret that A.Ss.I.S.T. reports that, as insufficient funds were raised to meet the amount required to implement this project, even partially, we have chosen to write to each of the donors seeking their permission for one of the following:
a/ to retain the funds until such time we raised sufficient funds to employ at least one interpreter/translator for six months part-time or
b/ to roll the funds raised over into our general funds to support the work of our interpreters/translators who work on a casual basis, that is, they are on call on an as-required basis and receive a stipend based on the number of hours worked.
A.Ss.I.S.T. currently has a team of interpreters/translators to support our work for Arabic, Dari/Farsi/French, Krio and Somali and are currently seeking the services of a Lingala/English interpreter. From within our network, A.Ss.I.S.T. is also able to meet the interpreting needs of those requiring Amharic, Bengali, Tigrinya and Urdu.
From January to March 2022, A.Ss.I.S.T. provided information and legal aid services to asylum seekers of 18 different nationalities in 9 languages other than English. Our 2022 First Quarter Report is available at https://www.assistchios.info/2022.
As of June 2022, A.Ss.I.S.T. anticipates that there will be a greater need for interpreters to support the implementation of a program of Information Sessions to be provided both online and in various venues in Athens, Greece.
