We provide free legal services to refugees and asylum seekers across Greece. Having access to accurate information is essential to support people to navigate the asylum system. Last year we provided hundreds of legal services appointments. Your donations support our lawyers and interpreters to provide this service in Athens and on Chios island. This World Refugee Day we ask you to act in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers arriving in Greece by supporting our work. Thank you.
Still, large numbers of refugees and asylum seekers arrive in Greece each year. Upon arrival, they must engage with a complex system and additional barriers such as access to technology and internet and language barriers.
We provide free legal services to refugees and asylum seekers across Greece. Our lawyers provide free legal advice for a range of situations including initial asylum applications, decision appeals and subsequent applications. We adopt a trauma-informed approach, and seek to make our services as accessible as possible. This includes interpretation services in Amharic, Arabic, Farsi, French, Krio, Lingala, Somali, Tigrinya and more.
It is impossible for asylum seekers to have a clear understanding of the complex and ever-changing legal systems that affect their asylum applications without legal aid, which is a vast barrier to gaining refugee status. Our project will provide this understanding to asylum seekers on Chios, and across the mainland, helping to restore autonomy, certitude and dignity situations where there may be none, and ultimately to assist asylum seekers in gaining international protection and a new start.
