Thank you for supporting children's education!

By Catherine Franks | Founder of Children's Helpers Worldwide

Thank you very much for supporting this project to improve the quality of education that children in Cape Town receive.

Your help sponsored places for teachers and educators at ORT SA CAPE's workshops. This enables them to deliver a better quality of education to the children in their classrooms, this year and throughout their careers, meaning that you will impact so many children, giving them all a chance of a brighter future.

Thobeka, an early childhood development practitioner who works at Phandulwazi Educare Centre in Khayelitsha, attended ORT SA CAPE's training workshop on LEGO Play Box techniques. She has incorporated these methods into her teaching practice.

There are 25 children in Thobeka's class. They are aged two to three years old and Xhosa is their home language.

Thobeka is now able to use LEGO resources to make sure the children can learn to count and to identify and match colours. She teaches the concepts in Xhosa and English simultaneously during these activities, which supports the children's language development in two languages.

The children now also build towers individually and can coordinate with other children to build towers in pairs and in groups.

As well as this, Thobeka has also introduced an activity at the start of each day, using LEGO bricks, to see how the children are feeling.

Thobeka noted that two children who were previously very shy and reluctant to participate in activities have become more open and speak more, since the LEGO activities were introduced.

These activities help all the children develop a range of skills, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.

Your kindness is making a difference in each of the classrooms of every teacher and educator supported through our project pages on GlobalGiving!

During GlobalGiving's last campaign, we received enough donations to sponsor places for 12 teachers to attend ORT SA CAPE's workshop, which will greatly impact the children in each of their classrooms.

If you would like to see more details about Thobeka's work, you can see our full report (which also includes some other updates from ORT SA CAPE too) here: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/education-children-teachers-cape-town/reports/?subid=322804

Thank you for your wonderful support!
