On Feb 9 2021, a rain swollen Injesuthi River flooded to devastate the KCV offices and small business production centers. Kwethu provides a venue of livlihood for 22 extended families, a tutoring center to start soon for 120 HS Math & Physics. Projects during COVID-19 impact include relaunching foster care support program for 5 families, conducting Ward 3 profiling to identify general family needs during lockdown. We will re furnish our offices, remodel, renovate and continue to reach out.
Kwethu Children's Village provides support to the surrounding community in resource distribution, foster care support, education, tutoring and sport training, as well as providing a venue for several small co operative businesses. We must rebuild the community buildings that server as offices, places of business and multipurpose community hall that was destroyed by flood.
This microproject will provide funds to rebuild, replace lost office equipment, and renovate severely damaged buildings and fences destroyed by the flood from the Injesuthi River.
Skilled, confident and compassionate youth, strengthened by social, spiritual and community fabric will be the result of this project. The critical support provided by our program builds leadership, entrepeneurial confidence, positive relationships, healthy values and accountability. Young Kwethu graduates have come back to work in the Uthukela district, providing evidence of the high value we set on giving back to this community of 150 000+ and to sustainability of our special Kwethu Village.
