A girl may have to miss school for up to a week each month because she doesn't have sanitary pads to use. During her menstrual cycle, she may not even be able to leave her home without sanitary pads. She has no choice but to use items that she can find such as paper, napkins, and rags if she doesn't have sanitary pads. Add that to the fact that she's already struggling to cover the costs to go to school and you have a young lady who never gets her education. This project can help change that.
A girl who cannot afford to purchase sanitary pads is at a huge disadvantage when it comes to schooling. She will miss school every month and because of this, she will get behind in her school work and becomes at risk of dropping out of school.
This project will provide 250 girls aged 11-24 with reusable sanitary pad kits. We know that girls who have sanitary pads are more confident in school and more likely to graduate. Each year of education a girl receives significantly increases her earning potential. Literate educated women will speak up for themselves & others. Literate educated women have healthier lives and healthier families. These women contribute to their communities and the nation.
This project is helping girls to break out of the vicious cycle that entraps unskilled and resource-poor girls. At-risk girls are maturing into well-educated, emancipated, gainfully employed and self-sufficient women. These empowered women are the pillars of their families, communities and the nation. When the mother of the home is educated, the health, well-being, and success of the entire family is propelled forward and transformed. Educated girls educate the entire nation.
