THANK YOU so much - writing this report from Nourish is always one that makes my heart happy, because we are helping those with no ability to help themselves; we are speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves. And our animal outreach, supporting dogs ( and the odd pig or donkey ) are always a way that we know that we really do make a small difference, and that kindness does change a life.
Your support during COVID-19 has helped us hugely. Families have really struggled financially, the impact of losing so many jobs and the loss of international tourism has left so many bread-winners retrenched.. This has impacted hugely on food security, and household income. Our Resilience projects at Nourish have tried to keep supporting families with basic food hampers, but the impacts of poverty are far-reaching.. and we noticed many cases where dogs started going hungry, not because of neglect, but because families are really struggling with no money... For many of us, we have never been in that predicament... it must be so daunting. No money. No income. No way to feed your family, your children... and your dogs and pets.
So this project was a life line and allowed Benneth and Martin to engage with the community, do homevisits, and drop off little bags of dog food, provide hope and stability, check the conditions of animals and give them a good meal. We were even able to assist with vet fees and call outs for a dog that was caught in a snare ( as snaring increases, because families are hoping to snare meat from the bush to put a meal on the table... but many times dogs or other animals get caught in a snare, and this is a painful experience which can sadly end in death for many animals.. ) We were lucky that the dog escaped and along with the vet we could treat his wounds.
So many dogs, visited, seen, wagging their tails at Martin, getting some love and affection and a bag of food to tide them over a few more weeks. Each owner, who has been allowed dignity because of this donation, each dog that gets to eat a bowl of food because of your support, THANKS YOU!
