This project will unlock Guatemalan children's potential by providing them with access to child-friendly reading materials and a quiet reading space during community educational activities.
Do you remember the joy of reading books as a child? Unfortunately, many Guatemalan children in rural communities will never know that joy. In Guatemala, children's books cost more than 1 or 2 day's salary of an agricultural worker, many children are first generation readers and libraries are unheard of in most communities. This means Guatemalan children in rural areas have few opportunities to sit down and read a good book.
This project will provide Guatemalan children with access to age appropriate books in their own language that they can read in a quiet reading corner during our community educational events.
Our goal is to unlock Guatemalan children's potential through improved literacy. Better literacy is associated with better health, better employment, and safer and more stable societies.
