Hey there! Thank you for your support to help rebuild and upgrade the Lesvos climbing wall. The great news is that we've managed to rebuild and reopen the climbing wall at our new gym on Lesvos. We had an opening event last November that was hugely popular among both the local community and our refugee/asylum seeker students. Since the wall reopened, we've been running regular weekly climbing classes with 15-20 attendees for most sessions! These are great numbers for Lesvos, and a big step up from the climbing wall attendance at the old space.
However, we were sadly not able to reach our fundraising goal to expand the climbing wall. So we haven't been able to upgrade the wall and add a new slab section or a lead climbing training wall. Thusfar, the funds we raised have gone towards small maintenance work on the wall: replacing damaged T-nuts, buying bolts, screws, and other small items, mounting a hangboard for people to train on, and cleaning supplies to wash the holds during routesetting.
Rest assured, the funds that we have raised so far are being kept aside to be used exclusively for the climbing wall and we will try again in the coming months to raise the remaining money to upgrade the wall with a new slab section! Thanks again for your support - it has helped keep hundreds of climbers here on Lesvos satisfied every week!
