This project will provide a year of English Education for Elza. Elza joined the English in Mind (EIM) Institute in the fall of 2013 and has proven herself to be an eager, responsible student. She's always on time, does her homework and is a role model at EIM, especially for the other female students. Elza will use her language skills to find dignified, living wage employment - but she can't afford to pay for her own school. That's why she needs donors like you!
More than two thirds of Haitian adults lack formal employment and more than 50% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day. Despite high unemployment, there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in Port au Prince. English speakers can find work in hotels, restaurants, and offices, yet there are virtually no free English schools. Most Haitians, including Elza, cannot afford to attend these schools. Without the means to develop their skills, many are left trapped in poverty.
By ensuring that Elza can continue studying English for free at the English in Mind Institute, you can help her develop the skills she needs to find gainful employment.
Your donations will give Elza the means to support herself and her family into the future. This will let her escape poverty for good.
