Job Skills for Davidson

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

Summary

This project will provide a year of English Education for Davidson. Davidson has always struggled to find a job and support his family because he lacks vocational skills. Davidson wants to develop the skills he needs to find dignified, living wage employment - but he can't afford to pay for his own education. That's why he needs donors like you to support him!

Challenge

More than two thirds of Haitian adults lack formal employment and more than 50% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day. Despite high unemployment, there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in Port au Prince. English speakers can find work in hotels, restaurants, and offices, yet there are virtually no free English schools. Most Haitians, including Davidson, cannot afford to attend these schools. Without the means to develop their skills, many are left trapped in poverty.

Solution

By ensuring that Davidson can continue studying English for free at the English in Mind Institute, you can help him develop the skills he needs to find gainful employment.

Long-Term Impact

Your donations will give Davidson the means to support himself and his family into the future. This will let him escape poverty for good.
