Thank you so much to everyone who has supported EcoViva’s project to improve water security in El Salvador. Access to clean water is essential for the health and safety of everyone, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that provide clean water for rural communities. Our partner organizations in El Salvador and Honduras continue to fight for water security as a public health crisis shakes the globe.
As the world reacts and responds to COVID-19, we are reminded that the most vulnerable people are often hit hardest when disaster strikes. Advisories for frequent handwashing are difficult to adhere to when many communities lack consistent access to clean water. Many families throughout El Salvador still do not have running water, and those who do are forced to choose between washing their hands more often or having enough to drink and prepare food. Those who would often travel to retrieve water for drinking, cooking, and laundry are also significantly less able to do so with the strict curfews in place.
To help vulnerable communities practice regular sanitation without exhausting their own resources, community leaders are working to set up hand-washing stations. Our partners are also working to provide protective equipment, like masks and hand sanitizer, ensure food security by providing vegetable seedlings and supporting small farmers, and keep communities informed through frequent radio broadcasts. To learn more about what our partners are doing to protect their communities, please visit our blog.
If you would like to continue your support of EcoViva, please contribute to our COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. 100% of the funding we receive will go straight to protecting vulnerable communities.
Thank you again for believing in us.
In Solidarity,
Mallory McDaniel
