December 24th was once again a day of singing, dancing, laughing, smiling and celebrating! That was the day when each child received a warm blanket for those cold nights and mornings. It's hard to believe how cold it can get, especially if you are sleeping on the cold dirt floor of a shack or hut...That was also the day that the parents of our 480 children came to the Live and Learn in Kenya Education to receive their holiday presents. Each family receive a bag full of food - cabbages, carrots, cooking oil, wheat flour, ugali meal and a live chicken - all of the holiday feast for the entire family.
The singing in the streets of the slums could be heard for miles as the parents and children joyfully and merrily danced through the streets with their prized possesions.
This was holiday magic at its most potent - the real meaning of the holidays packed into the smiling faces of these lovely parents who were able to hold their heads up high - knowing that their loved ones would not go hungry this holiday as many had in the past.
Thank you - Asante sana!
