A new activity book!

By Gigo Alampay | Executive Director, CANVAS

Karapat Dapat - Know Your Rights!
Karapat Dapat - Know Your Rights!

Working with our partner artists from Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang InK), the country's first and only association of children's book illustrators, we're happy to report that we've finally published a new children's activity book, Karapat Dapat. This is an activity book about the rights of children, based on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Child. It is meant not only to help children learn about and to become aware of their rights. By distributing these to children, especially those affected by typhoon and other natural calamity, these books, hopefully will give them a sense of fun and normalcy.

We formally launched the book in a special ceremony at the Philippine Commission on Human Rights, where we also lent an art mural by Ang InK on the rights of children.

Because of your help, as well as those from other individuals, companies and other nonprofits, we have been able to order 15,000 copies for distribution to children in poor and disadvantaged communities throughout the Philippines, which will include those who may find themselves in evacuation centers especially now that the country is in typhoon season.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of the children of the Philippines who will now start to receive these books!
