By Dr David Steiner | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD Project Co-ordinator
Several of us from Hands around the World visited Kaliyangile in February and our GlobalGiving appeal for beekeeping items arose from our discussions with a group of students then.
Beekeeping training in partnership with the government forestry department is ongoing but we found that it is all theoretical and that equipment was urgently required to enable the enthusiastic students to put their training into practice.
Fortunately you responded magnificently, and the funds raised have enabled the purchase of materials for making 10 beehives and bee suits for some of the beekeeping students, as well as providing a honey press for Kaliyangile.
This will make a huge difference to their ability to translate theory into practice and will hopefully lead to much-enhanced honey production. Training in better marketing has also started and will hopefully result in better packaging leading to enhanced sales and increased revenue in future.
Thank you very much for your support. We couldn't have done it without you!
