One of the most life-changing features of Y-WE is our ability to bring girls together from all different neighborhoods in the greater Seattle region. We connect girls from as far as Carnation, to Bellevue, to Shoreline, to Federal Way, to West Seattle! Providing transport for these girls is our greatest challenge--and with a van of our own we will be able to increase program access. We believe ALL girls deserve mentorship and leadership opportunities-no matter where they live! Don't you?
Lack of access to transportation is one of the biggest barriers standing in the way of many youth's ability to participate in life-changing programs. Most youth programs limit their reach to specific neighborhoods & schools because the issue of limited transport is so daunting in the Seattle region--but not Y-WE! We are committed to serving girls from all over the region--which means we pick girls up 2-3 times and month and bring them to our leadership workshops.
For the last 5 years, Y-WE has relied on the generosity of our mentor drivers to pick girls up from all over the region. We have also needed to charter expensive vans and buses in order to transport girls to our programs. Now that we are serving over 400 girls from all over the region, these transport methods are no longer sufficient. We need at least 1-2 vans of our own to pick girls up. The van will insure that 50 previously unreached girls will have access!
WA is home to one of the most diverse zip codes in the nation and yet we generally interact with groups from the same economic, age, cultural, religious, & political backgrounds. Y-WE provides a unique space to connect with 400 girls and 200 women from a wide range of countries, cultures, and religions. This gives them the tools to be agents for social justice. 95% participants report that Y-WE helps them become leaders who will dedicate their lives to making a local and global impact.
