Dear friends,
thank you so much for supporting Vika!
Thanks to the efforts of many people from Ukraine and all over the world we managed to raise the necessary amount of money for the bone implant required for Vika. Every time during the campaign when the family came to see us and heard about so many people willing to help them, they were incredulous and really really happy.
The preparation for the surgery was long. It started with regular meetings of Vika’s surgeon and a medical engineer. They had to make a layout of the implant taking into consideration all the peculiarities of the body and changes of the girl’s condition. The layout was changed more than three times before it was ready to send to Germany for production.
On July 3rd Vika was operated on. The surgery was very complicated and lasted more than six hours. The implant was installed successfully. However, it is just the beginning. Firstly, the leg with the implant has to be extended gradually and then the long process of physical rehabilitation will start. The rehabilitation will be painful but both Vika and her mom understand that it is an only way to recover and to be able to walk again.
Thank you for helping Vika to avoid amputation. The girl is a bit shy and doesn't speak a lot about her feelings but her smile speaks louder than words.
