This project will help to save a leg of 11-year-old Vika who survived cancer and has a risk of an amputation if a special implant is not installed in time.
11-year-old Viktoria survived cancer. Now a special plate replacing the removed bone is installed in her leg. But the plate doesn't grow, so the girl's affected leg is now shorter than the healthy one by 10 cm. The girl needs a special bone implant that will grow with the leg, otherwise the doctors will have to make a decision on amputation. The cost of the implant is more than 50 000 dollars which is an impossible amount for an average Ukrainian family.
Zaporuka Foundation and Vika's family have organized a fundraising campaign, so that the girl didn't lose her leg. Together we have raised a half of the required amount. Time is ticking out for Vika. If we raise the necessary amount in time, Vika will not have a leg amputation. Instead, the girl will get a high-quality bone prosthesis (endoprosthesis) made individually that takes into account all the patient's peculiarities.
Vika's future and quality of life depends on whether her leg will be amputated or not. With her leg saved the girl will not be a person with a disability and she will not have special needs which are often not provided by the state in Ukraine. With such a background she is likely to become an active member of the society and to give back to the community, for example, serving as a volunteer helping others.
