Lady Pilou arrived at DAKTARI when she was just a wee little baby at only 2 weeks old and was found in the backyard of a local wildlife estate before we welcomed her with open arms. We took her to the vet where she received some uplifting treatment. She now enjoys a healthy diet of both food and affection from all the people at the DAKTARI camp! Our little princess is sending out a squealing appeal for you to help us provide her with love and care for the next year until she is big and strong!
As a wildlife sanctuary we often get very young animals who, on their own, would have died in the wild. Be it through injury or because they do not know how to fend for themselves, these animals require a lot of effort of both time and care in order to ensure that they can thrive and grow up healthy. Lady Pilou needs this project so that we can ensure that she receives all the care she may need to grow up into a healthy mongoose that can be released into the wild!
The aim of the project is to ensure that we can provide all the nutrition and care for Pilou to grow up healthy. In addition to this, because of her early age, a lack of proper food or care can increase the chances of both malnutrition and sickness which would hinder her development into a full grown adult, and hence her reintroduction into the wild. This project will allow us to raise her with all basic needs covered so that we can continue showering her with love until she is an adult!
A positive and clean environment with healthy and cared-for animals serves to push our impact on the children, and consequently on the community. Likewise, through the education of the future generations of the area, we aim to make a lasting impact on the local wildlife. In addition to this, we hope that the animals we have now, like the mongoose, dassies, a bush baby, or a family of meerkats amongst others, may be reintroduced into the wild when they are fully rehabilitated.
