On New Year's Eve, SEO assisted Oregon Humane Society with the voluntary surrender of five neglected horses from Brooks, Oregon. Several of the horses were severely underweight and suffering from a variety of untreated medical issues.
SEO volunteers traveled to Brooks to remove the horses, which were taken to Eagle Fern Equine for evaluation and treatment, and then sent to skilled foster homes with the knowledge and resources to restore them to good health. Of the five horses, Quincy and Charlie were in the worst shape, but under the excellent care of their foster homes, they are both on their way to recovery.
Quincy, a 14-year-old Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred mix gelding, is very curious and friendly. Charlie, a 20-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, is a good-natured boy with great ground manners. Both seem to have had some training in the past, but need more recovery time before we could evaluate their training.
Charlie has just arrived in the training barn and is looking beautiful! His wonderful, experienced foster mom has done a great job getting him back in shape and even taking him on trailrides. This guy is ready for his new home!
Quincy will be leaving to Silver Buckle Ranch in a week to begin a Teen Wranglers Horse Rescue Program. He will be in training for the Lucky 7 competition with a Silver Buckle trainer and at risk youth from the Clark County Detention Center.
These boys now have an amazing second chance in life. We can not wait to see them find and blossom in their new homes!
