Help Us Pay office rent

I am excited to bring you this update from LGBT Voice, thanks to those who supported our project.  Our work is to advance equality, diversity, education, and justice for LGBT people in Tanzania.

Though we have been existing 2009 we were officially registered in September 2013. The organization is still at its initial stage and only depends on voluntary donations from individuals who believe in our work.

While working very hard to meet our goals and objective we face various obstacles including lack of resources, legal exclusion and social rejection, which makes it more difficult to access various services.

In the past three years we have managed to serve more than 500 LGBT individuals in the area of counselling,training, providing relief services, such as temporay shelter, food and medication to LGBT youth who are evicted from their homes, providing school fees and uniforms to LGBT youth.

Being an advocacy organization we have managed to document incidences of LGBT rights violation and now using the data as an advocacy tool for the change of laws and policies that criminalise homosexuality and promote homophobia. We are also now lobbying at the UN through Universal Preodic Review process and a number of states are willing to  push our agenda.

Our future plan is to mobilize international preasure on our government because they have failed to fullfill their obligation of protecting and promoting human rights according to the convetion.

 We run our daily activities in a rented premise; the rent can be paid every six months or yearly depending on the availability of funds. But this time we were only able to raise $295 out of the goal of $3,600. We therefore were not able to pay rent for the months January- June 2016 and we were evicted from the office on April 4^th, 2016.

 Getting evicted from the office is a big challenge to our work and the LGBT movement in Tanzania. We urgently need help so that we can obtain a new safe office space where we can continue doing the important work the to ensure equal rights for LGBT people in Tanzania,

 Kindly help us raise $3,600 so that we can pay our office rent  for us to work effectively and be able to build a powerful community that fights to change a world where people are locked up for who they love, or are.

Having an office means our continued effort of advocating for a better and safe Tanzania for LGBT people to live, enjoying their fundamental human rights, accessing all services without discrimination based on gender identity and sex orientation. Donations to this project will have the potential to create a strong, sophisticated, and vibrant organizations meeting the needs, advancing the rights, and celebrating the lives of LGBTI people and communities in Tanzania
