Aid for San José: a story of solidarity and reconstruction
We are very happy and excited to tell you that Hogar San José has finished the repair and reconstruction works after a tree damaged part of the facilities at the end of May.
The works were possible thanks to the help of our MDP's Friends, hundreds of people, companies and organizations that from the first day accompanied Mensajeros de la Paz spreading the word and collaborating with our campaign "AYUDA PARA SAN JOSE" (AID FOR SAN JOSE) to raise money for the purchase of materials.
The Hogar San José is the oldest residence in the Municipality of Tres de Febrero, and provides specialized care 24 hours a day to 50 elderly people, accompanying them daily to improve their quality of life.
The project became a refuge from the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, reaching the second day of vaccination against COVID-19 in April 2021 without any positive case of internal infection. Throughout those months, the residents were an example of strength and resilience, enduring isolation, loneliness and distance from their loved ones.
However, on May 20th of this year, the fall of a tree on the premises shattered glass, shutters and part of the roof of the home and caused damage to the water and gas system, and given the care provided and the low temperatures at that time of year, repairs were urgently needed.
That is why, in Mensajeros de la Paz, we started the campaign "AYUDA PARA SAN JOSÉ", with the objective of raising the $900.000ARG that we needed to make the repairs.
In the weeks following the start of the campaign, we began to receive from various media and social networks the support of hundreds of people willing to help us. It was thus that, a month later, the materials began to arrive to start the renovations. And, by September, the restoration work at San José was completed, keeping intact the Hogar's commitment to caring for the elderly people who live there during all this time.
