This project will also be to break down the barriers holding girls back all around Teso-Region in Uganda. Children facing child marriage, children being denied an education, and children being held back from achieving their potential. SCOEN intends to give child brides and survivors skills training in Tailoring, seed capital, hand craft - bead making, liquid soap and sanitary towels making to boost their confidence as away to respond and end to child marriage.
SCOEN in the current project preventing and responding to child marriages and early unions have learnt how girls are forced to marry men three times their age. On the day of her marriage, one Akwii - not her real names didn't fully understand what was about to happen to her. The violence, abuse and control. But she knew life as she knew it was over. This new life of domestic slavery, isolation and missed opportunities deprives girls like Akwii of every right you can imagine.
The overall goal is to encourage child brides by providing capacity-building services, notably through socio-economic reintegration training. A key component is income-generating activity training, such bead making, tailoring, reusable sanitary pad and liquid soap making enabling the women to develop their own small businesses and become financially autonomous. This will better equip, protect themselves & provide for their own and their children's needs.
