Honestly, I can't believe it is 2022. After making it through 2020, I thought we were in the clear.
But in 2021, with the delta variant nearly killing our Director, Pratibha, and our head vet assistant Sanjay, I truly thought DAR would have to close our doors. But they bounced back, and with your support (emotional support, social media shares, adoptions, donations, and more) we survived another year!
But thanks to you we hit our end of year goal of raising $40,000
Here is overview of what our small team accomplished - in 2021.
So, what are our plans for 2022?
Our mission is to end the human/street dog conflict by creating a humane and sustainable environment for animals with direct benefits to the people of Dharamsala, India
After analyzing our 2021 data, we discovered that 27% of all rescues were road accidents. In addition 11% were maggot wound cases and 5% were rabies cases.
Dogs on the road and dog bites are the two biggest factors causing human/street dog conflict and unfortunately, also causing high numbers of deaths.
Tango is one of the latest dogs to be hit. She is currently recovering from a wounded and fractured leg.
So besides increasing our spay/neuter surgeries to stabilize population growth, what else can we do reduce the human/street dogs conflict? On January 8, 2022, we launched the "I LOVE DESI DOGS"campaign!

We have collected photos from Indian celebrities and locals who have adopted desi dogs, along with quotes on why these dogs make great pets as opposed to breed dogs.
Fun fact - When we started the research for this campaign, even our staff was surprised to learn certain celebrities adopted street dogs! We are hoping to spread awareness and make adopting desi dogs "cool."
