Summary

This Giving Tuesday we are hoping to inspire people to Give the gift of life, health, and peace for the holidays. Through our campaign, we are drawing attention to how our every day expenses can make a huge difference for the dogs and children of Dharamsala, India. Your Monday morning latte can cover the cost of 2 life saving rabies vaccinations. These vaccinations will not only save the dogs' lives but children's lives as as well since rabies is an endemic disease in India.

Challenge

$7000 dollars covers one month's worth of costs for our project on the ground in India. This amount allows us to continue our mission is to end the human/street dog conflict by creating a humane and sustainable environment for animals with direct benefits to the people of Dharamsala, India. Each month we sterilize and vaccinate 70 dogs, rescue 50 animals, and provide 1000 plus treatments all performed by local vets and staff.

Solution

We provide several key programs to achieve our goals: spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, rescue and adoption, and community education for rabies safety and compassion. DAR has been running since 2009. Since that time, we have helped more than 18,000 animals. Since the beginning we've seen change. There are more people feeding and caring for strays. More people getting post bite vaccinations for dog bites. More people adopting local dogs. This project will help this change continue

Long-Term Impact

Our vision: We strive to create a community where the people realize that the stray animal population can be managed with compassion and education. With mass sterilization and rabies vaccination programs we can create a healthy sustainable population of dogs. Through education and community interaction, we can teach people how to be kind to street dogs even they are afraid of them, eradicate rabies, and increase adoptions.
