This project will send our Honduran Robotics Team to the International Robotics Competition in Dubai in October 2019. If we can raise enough funds, this will be our 3rd trip. In 2017, the team traveled to the USA and came in 41st place; in 2018, the team traveled to Mexico and came in 16th place.
Education in Honduras is very poor. Teachers are not prepared; there are no educational materials; teachers stand in the front of the room, and the students are expected to memorize what is written on the board. We want to CHALLENGE students to think!! We have started Legos Robotics programs in 7 schools. The kids LOVE it. Robotics inspires the students to think, and to challenge themselves.
No one thought that the students from our poor, rural part of Honduras could learn how to build robots. But, with the help of Alan Ostrow (a HS physics teacher from Philadelphia), our team not only participated in the International FIRST Robotics Competition, but they made everyone proud! 165 countries competed. We came in 41st place in 2017. We came in 16th place in 2018. Help our team get to the Competition in Dubai in October 2019!
Present students will be empowered to access opportunity and secure professional, fulfilling careers. They will often be the first from their families to move beyond poverty's limitations. They will become leaders within their communities and their nation, addressing the root causes that keep Honduras poor. As the model extends and grows, communities will find opportunity to develop, economically and socially. Education will provide the standard for hope and inspiration.
