A privileged visit to the Kattunayakan tribe community at Neyveli
The Kattunayakan tribe is an indigenous community primarily found in the southern part of India, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. They are considered one of the scheduled tribes in India, which means they are officially recognized as historically disadvantaged communities that require special attention and support for their development.
The Kattunayakan people have traditionally lived in forested regions and have been dependent on hunting, gathering, and forest-based livelihoods. Over time, as forest areas have been subject to conservation efforts and development projects, the traditional lifestyle of the Kattunayakan tribe has been impacted.
On 29.07.2023 the Prime Trust Founder and Managing Director Mr. S.M. Arasu visited and interacted with the people of the Kattunayakan tribe. Sparingly used clothes were distributed to the people. Prime Trust is planning to start an evening school for the children in the community.
