Hi Everyone,
My name is Deepak Kumar and I am Chairman of People First.
I want to tell you a story of the very beginnings of our Trust. We visited a village 22 years ago where we saw a boy sitting alone outside the long abandoned government school and he was waiting for a teacher that never came. This inspired us to start People First all those years ago. The young boy in question eventually won a scholarship under our TOP scheme (The Opportunities Programme) and he studied hard. Now it might be easy to write he was brilliant student who is now a doctor or teacher. But actually that was not the case , he had to take his school leaving examination three times before passing. But then I realized this boy does represent the spirit of People First, no matter how hard it is, no matter how long it takes, we will get it done. This applies to this appeal on Global Giving . First it was ten computers , then eight, then 7.5 and now seven. We are moving forward slowly but steadily due to your kindness towards our target and being able to restart computer vocational training for young people living below the poverty line once again.
Aa you know this training is a government approved course offering real qualifications which are valid and recognized all over India. We just need the hardware to start, replacing our defunct P2 computers which are no longer fit for purpose.
Here is what one student says," we watch sometimes on the net and at the Averll Centre, the HQ of People First where there is a big sign showing the progress of the appeal outsidevthe computer classroom marking the progress of this appeal. This training means so much to us, without it how can we get work?, and we cannot afford the expensive private classes and they do not offer real qualifications.. Thank you for helping us"!

So watch this space!
And thanks again to you all,
Deepak
