Dear friends,
We are happy to update you on the status of our home improvement initiative for the families of our girls here at The Mariposa DR Foundation. For the past year we have been working hard on improving the living conditions of two families here in our town of Cabarete.
The six members of the Martinez family were living in a small, one room shack in some of the worst living conditions in our area. Their home was extremely cramped and constantly flooded when it rained, making it an unsuitable place for children to live comfortably. This family has two girls in our program for the past three years and the parents remain very involved. With the help of your donations and a student group, we were able to build them a new house. We are still raising money to complete the details but it is complete enough for the family to move in!
The Gomez family of nine were also living in a small shack that was falling over and flooded. We have been working to help them build a new house as well and thanks to your support, the house will be move-in ready in the next few weeks once the electrical work and flooring is finished. The Gomez family has three girls in our program and their father, Roberto also works as a groundskeeper at The Mariposa Center for Girls. "I am happy that my daughters are in Mariposa. They have helped my family a lot and given me work. With this new house we will all be living much better. Mariposa is extremely important in my life" says Roberto.
We are still working hard to raise even more funds and bring down more student groups to help improve the home lives of our girls. Having a safe and comfortable living environment is critical for children and their ability to concentrate in school. With your help, we are breaking down yet another barrier standing in the way to quality education and emerging out of extreme poverty. We thank you for your help!
With gratitude,
The families at The Mariposa DR Foundation
