‘I feel so excited starting a new business. When the flash flood swept all my things away, I was really frustrated and helpless. This business is a new hope for me to generate income and start a new life’’Felicita explained.
Following the Buea 08th March 2023 flash floods in Buea Town community, Felicita was among the survivors who lost everything and was rendered homeless. She was forced to seek refuge at a neighbor whose house survived the floods and was given clothes by other well-wishers in the community.
Before surviving the flash floods, 29 yrs. old Felicita is a conflict-affected person who has suffered ordeals of the Anglophobe crisis in the Northwest Region. Being hit hard by the flash floods was a traumatizing experience for her. She was attending school and doing a temporary business which was helping her to afford her daily needs. Following the flash foods, there was no hope for her to resume school.
During a social inquiry visit at the Buea town community, we met with Felicita who explained her loss in pain. We talk with her and took a video of her, submitted a Micro-Project appeal which was used to raise funds during the 2023 April Little by Little GlobalGiving Campaign.
On 1st July, we organised a one–on–one training session on entrepreneurship with Felicita at Reach Out Head office in Small Soppo, Buea. Our social workers trained her on business management, how to use social media to advertise her business, bookkeeping, savings, and customer service.
‘’ I have learned how I can manage my business, keep records, increase sales, and make more profit in business,’’ Felicita said after the training.
Following the training on entrepreneurship and presentation of a business plan, Felicita has engaged in business with a seed capital of 450$ (272,800 CFA). She deals in sales of ladies' slippers and handbags. Our social workers will provide her with onsite coaching to ensure that she succeeds in business and becomes financially independent.
