Eric lives with his mother and younger sister in a town 25 miles away from the only School for Special Education in the State of Guanajuato. His father wishes for nothing more than to bring his young son to a school where he can learn Mexican Sign Language. At EEE his son will also have the opportunity to learn to read and write and to be part of a class with other deaf children his own age. With your help Eric's father will be given the means to accompany his son to school three days each week
At such a young age Eric must rely on his family to bring him to school and his family does not have the financial means to bring him by bus on a regular basis. The cost of two bus fares, twice a day, three day per week or $80 per month is prohibitive for Eric's family.
Your help will allow Eric's father to purchase the bus tickets necessary to accompany his young son to school and home again for one full school term
We estimate that just like Eric approximately 100 other deaf children in the area do not have access to an education in Mexican Sign Language. We ask ourselves, how can Eric receive a meaningful education with teachers who have no sign language training? We see it all the time, deaf children languishing virtually untaught in public school classrooms. With access to special education Eric and others will grow to become literate, independent, and productive citizens who set and achieve life goals.
