Since 2016, children in Anglophone Cameroon are not going to school, for more than 2 years, they are living in an active conflict that has killed thousands and displaced more than 500,000 persons. In host communities like Bona Mayiba, many displaced children survive on the streets. Here, Hope Alive Foundation has a space for children. It provides structure, time to play, alternative education, and psychosocial support. This project will provide equipment and expand the Child-Friendly Space.
Since 2016, Bona Mayiba, Tiko, has seen the influx of many children who have left other risky zones to settle in this community. They are enduring severe trauma and have little resources opportunities to structure their lives and face the future. The children have been forced to leave their areas of origin due to the ongoing killings and confrontation. They have little or nothing to look forward to. With your help, these children can get the psycho-social support they need and be happier.
In the center, the children freely socialize and learn. Hope Alive provides moral lessons, training on life skills and helps them to bring out their hidden talents. They have the opportunity to peacefully interact with other children and share their experiences with the social workers if they wish to. The children have not been to school for about three years and they are excited, ready, and willing to learn more.
About 100 internally displaced children shall benefit from this life-changing opportunity and their lives will not remain the same again. In the long run, they will gain skills that will help them achieve self-independence and assist them to grow up and find their place in society. Our staff in the field will constantly send reports on the progress and performance of these children.
